The Farsons Foundation has reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to environmental conservation and education through its sponsorship of the Majjistral Nature and History Park, Malta’s first National Park.
Over a three-year period, the Foundation has provided a significant contribution towards the Majjistral Park project, supporting initiatives that closely align with the Farsons Foundation’s mission and objectives related to environmental stewardship, sustainability and education. The final phase of this support has recently been forwarded to the Majjistral Park project, marking the conclusion of this important sponsorship programme.
To witness firsthand the impact of this investment, a site visit to Majjistral Park was held recently, led by Mr Louis A. Farrugia, Chairman of the Farsons Foundation and accompanied by members of the Board of Administrators. During the visit, the delegation met with the Majjistral Park team and viewed the excellent progress being achieved across the Park, as well as the effective and responsible use of the Foundation’s sponsorship.
The Farsons Foundation’s support has been specifically directed towards the development and enhancement of facilities that will be used by students and young visitors during educational visits to the Park. These facilities play a key role in enabling schools and other learning groups to engage with Malta’s natural environment in a structured, hands-on and meaningful way.
“The Farsons Foundation is proud to have partnered with Majjistral Park on a project that delivers lasting environmental benefits while inspiring future generations to appreciate, protect and learn from Malta’s natural heritage,” said Mr Louis A. Farrugia.
Majjistral Nature and History Park is located in the northwest of Malta and encompasses a six-kilometre stretch of coastline as well as inland areas rich in natural, cultural and historical heritage. The Park forms part of Natura 2000 sites of international ecological importance and includes unique habitats, coastal cliffs, rural landscapes, and restored heritage structures.
In recent years, Majjistral Park has undertaken major initiatives including the restoration of key buildings at the Għajn Tuffieħa Barracks, extensive afforestation efforts with thousands of indigenous trees planted, habitat restoration through the removal of invasive species, and ongoing educational and community outreach programmes for schools, families and organisations.
