The 2010 edition of The Farsons Great Beer Festival was launched during a press conference today. To be held from Friday, 23rd July to Sunday, 1st August 2010, this edition promises more fun, the best in local talent, and the finest beers on the island. The festival opens from 8pm onwards each night and is sponsored by Vodafone, Camay Shower Gel and Banif Bank.

Celebrating its 30th edition this year, The Farsons Great Beer Festival was held for the first time at the Farsons Brewery in Mriehel, and has since come a long way, with various venues and formats experimented.

The festival has come into its own at Ta’ Qali Park, and during the last nine years the festival has grown in size, attendance, number of performances, and variety of beers offered. However, one thing remains the same: entrance is always free.

Mr Ivan Filletti, Field Marketing Manager - Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, said that “The Farsons Great Beer Festival has become one of the main events in the summer calendar with a great festival atmosphere and aimed at all the family. We are proud that we have always kept entrance free of charge as a thank you to our customers. This year we will also be giving away two Air Malta flight tickets to German and Austrian destinations every night, as well as gift vouchers from Home Trends.”

“Vodafone will be putting up its exciting car racing game ‘The Simulator Challenge’ for the duration of the Festival.  This competition gives participants the opportunity to win an exciting all-inclusive trip to the McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey. Customers are invited to visit the Vodafone stand and compete against their friends or other customers to clock the fastest time and become a VIP visitor to the McLaren Technology Centre,” said Maria Calleja Vodafone’s Brand Manager.

The Farsons Great Beer Festival is enjoyed by people of all ages, and the open-air entertainment caters for all tastes and preferences, making it a great family outing or night out with friends.

“Camay is proud to partner with Farsons for the 30th edition of The Farsons Beer Festival – possibly Malta’s largest family event. Camay forms part of VJ Salomone Marketing’s wider range of family brands that include Gillette, Duracell, and Pringles. All these will be on offer to the general public from VJ Salomone’s stand throughout the entire duration of the Beer Festival,” said Mr Gordon Grima Baldacchino, Sales Manager for VJ Salomone Marketing.

A selection of artists and bands will be performing on two stages nightly, with popular local bands such as Tribali, Airport Impressions, Freddie Portelli and Ira Losco performing on the Main Stage and bands such as Fakawi, Chasing Pandora and The Rifffs on the Rock Stage. This year, a foreign Kiss tribute band, KISS Forever Band, who will be performing on two nights, will surely attract many Kiss fans. The festival is also well-known as a starting platform for the many up-and-coming artists who are given the opportunity to perform to a large audience.

“Once again we have a very strong line-up of local musicians and artists playing throughout the festival. It is always amazing to see the enthusiasm of the audience for all our local talent and the incredible support they give to all performers,” added Mr Filletti.

The locals and tourists flock to Ta’ Qali to support local musicians and artists while appreciating a variety of local beer brands, from the award-winning Cisk range of beers: Cisk Lager, Cisk Export, Cisk Excel and Cisk XS, to the classic beers, Hopleaf Pale Ale and Blue Label Ale, brewed with passion since 1928. International beer brands such as Carlsberg, Budweiser, Guinness, Kilkenny, John Smith’s Extra Smooth, Beck’s, and Corona will be available throughout the ten days of the festival, as well as cider brands Strongbow and Bulmer’s Original Cider.

The food court offers a mix of dishes from all over the world, including Maltese, Turkish, Chinese, Italian, Mexican as well as other traditional favourites.

The official festival beer mug, collected by many year after year, will be sold at the bars with the beer of choice or at the souvenir stall selling other special brand merchandise.

Other sponsors of the festival are Walkers, Home Trends, Alert Communications and Malta Tourism Authority. The Rock Stage is hosted by 89.7 Bay.
