From Hunger to Hope... World Hunger Relief 9/25/2008

By leveraging the company’s global scale, last year, 1.6 million people were saved from starvation

Yum! Brands, parent company of KFC and Pizza Hut, has re-launched the world’s largest hunger relief effort in an attempt to help stop world hunger. Called ‘World Hunger Relief 2008’, the programme supports the United Nations World Food Programme.

“From every corner of the world, our employees, franchisees, their families and customers have started a movement that will truly impact the ongoing fight against hunger and make a difference in the lives of so many in need,” said David C. Novak, Yum’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “I am incredibly proud of the overwhelming global response to World Hunger Relief concept which transformed into the world’s largest volunteer effort to fight world hunger. Through our efforts we are feeding and saving the lives of more than 400,000 children, moving them from hunger to hope,” added Novak.

Following last year’s commitment to the cause, Malta franchisee, Food Chain (Holdings) Limited, is once again participating actively in this global fund-raising event. All four Pizza Hut restaurants, situated in Sliema, Valletta, Bugibba and St. Julians, together with the KFC outlet in Gzira, have kicked off a number of activities and initiatives, roping in suppliers, staff and customers, to contribute and save lives.

“Last year, Malta was singled out as one of the leaders in the European market for driving this message and making a heartfelt contribution to the World Food Programe (WFP) funds in Rome. This year, we intend to increase the momentum and double our efforts in contributing more to help raise funds for WFP,” commented Marco Debono, Marketing Executive for Yum! Brands franchises in Malta.

Donations can be placed, either online through http://www.fromhungertohope.com/ or by visiting any KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Malta and asking for the World Hunger Relief donation envelope.

Moreover, as from 21st September until stocks last, a surprise will be given for each donation received from customers dining in at Pizza Hut restaurants in Malta. The surprise is endorsed by a world-known singer, who voluntarily offered her services for Yum! and WFP, exclusively for this World Hunger Relief global event.

Food Chain (Holdings) Limited is a subsidiary company of the Farsons Group of Companies. It is licensed to operate the Pizza Hut and KFC franchises in Malta on behalf of Yum! Brands, Inc.
