Together for Charity - Together to break a World Record
Malta’s biggest event, which is expected to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest Human Rainbow, is fast approaching. Over 12,000 people are expected to gather for the Kinnie Guinness World Record Attempt to challenge the world record set by China on October 6, 2002. This unique event will take place next Saturday, 15th November 2003 at The Granaries in Floriana starting from 1.00pm onwards.
“In addition, the event is set to break another world record – that of the world’s largest hand painted suspended logo. Measuring 17 meters by 15 meters and covering an area of 255 square metres, the Kinnie logo will be suspended during the Kinnie Guinness World Record Attempt,” said Kinnie Brand Executive, Alison Bezzina during a Press Conference held at Farsons Brewery. The banner bearing the Kinnie logo was painted by David Mallia of Artlines.
Organised by WearWords Ltd in partnership with XFM 100.2FM and sponsored by Kinnie, the event is also helping those who are less fortunate and further spreading the message of peace, love, unity and tolerance.
The Kinnie Guinness World Record Attempt has also been set to allow as many Maltese charities and philanthropic institutions as possible to participate and raise funds for their particular cause. Twenty-three organisations are selling passes, which cost Lm5 each. For every pass sold, the philanthropic organisation retains Lm2.
All those present will be wearing coloured t-shirts in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The Guinness World Record regulations stipulate that the 7 colours are to be equally represented. The distribution of t-shirts, therefore, is based on first come first served basis. All participants will sign their name on a register as proof of their participation in this record-breaking attempt.
Commenting on the preparations for the event, Mr Anthony Attard, organising committee member for WearWords, said: “We are ensuring that all possible measures are taken care of. We have engaged over 100 people to assist in the smooth running of the event. People are advised to use public transport. Sarria Street will be closed for traffic on Friday and Saturday and the Mall Gardens will be closed for the public on Saturday.”
Well-known TV personalities and spokespersons for Kinnie Guinness World Record Attempt, Ray Calleja and Clare Agius also urged the Maltese people to join in this event. “With a noble cause, great music and entertainment, the Kinnie Guinness World Record Attempt is one of the most special events to be held on our island this year. We are confident that the Maltese people will come along next Saturday with their families and friends to support this fundraising activity and be part of an attempt to break a Guinness World record,” said Clare Agius.
“This is the chance for every individual to show support for Malta’s largest event. The highlight of the event will be the formation of a coloured human rainbow, which will take place between 3.30pm and 5.00pm. A full-blown celebration party will follow with live music entertainment throughout the event until midnight. A host of more than 30 top leading Maltese singers and bands will be entertaining the crowds,” said Ray Calleja.
During the event there will be a children’s play area, food stalls and bars. Twelve year old Thea Saliba will also be performing the song ‘Rainbow Colours’ written and composed by herself.
Apart from the money raised for the individual charities, in the eventuality that a new world record is set in Malta, all the participating charities will be receiving a Guinness World Record certificate as evidence of being a part of this amazing one-time feat on our island.
Doors open at 1.00pm and there are two entrances – one next to St Publius Church and the other from the side of the Independence monument. Until 3.30pm there will be the distribution of coloured t-shirts to all participants. The formation of the rainbow will take place between 3:30pm and 4:30pm. The concert Kantanti ghall-Paci will start at 5.00pm following the formation of the human rainbow.
Tickets can be obtained from one of the participating charities/organisations listed on www.wearwords.org or directly from WearWords on 21 472051 or ticket hotline 7931 0084. Tickets can also be purchased from any Maltapost branch.
