Freddie Portelli Concludes This Year's Edition Of The Farsons Great Beer Festival 8/3/2003

The Farsons Great Beer Festival will be brought to an end tonight with Malta's own Rock 'N' Roll legend, Freddie Portelli. Musical entertainment starts with Lynn Chircop and her band Blend 7, followed by Brian and Lola International Illusion Show, and Freddie Portelli.

The World Beers Area will feature rock bands Bitterside and Fakawi with dj J Joy rounding off this year's Farsons Great Beer Festival.

This year's edition, hailed as a great success, saw thousands of people and their families enjoying the relatively cool, outdoor environment of Ta' Qali National Gardens. With reliance on lighting generators the Festival has been mainly unaffected by the power cuts in various localities around the island.

The Festival, held since 1981, has always attracted Maltese and tourists alike and has become a permanent fixture on Malta's cultural calendar. The festive atmosphere, complete with live entertainment by local singers, bands and djs, and a variety of cuisines, complemented with a large selection of beers produced or imported by Farsons, ensures total enjoyment by all visitors.

A large range of local brews and international beers are being served from 12 different bars. Beer drinkers can choose from an array of great quality beers including Cisk Lager, Hopleaf Smooth 'N' Creamy, Blue Label Smooth 'N' Creamy and the new Summer Festival Premium Golden Lager. International beer brands include the award-winning Cisk Export, Carlsberg, Budweiser, Guinness, Beck's, John Smith's, Kilkenny and Tetley's.

The official Festival mug, which was a novelty this year, has been a huge hit with visitors. A great souvenir to take back home, this mug can be purchased from the Classic Brews Bar and is offered full of the beer of choice. Limited stocks of these mugs make them a unique collector's item.

Mr. Matthew Cuomo, Beer Festival organiser, said "Ta' Qali National Gardens have proved to be an excellent location for the Farsons Great Beer Festival. With ample parking and easy access, the Festival continues to be an attraction every year. The very positive feedback we have had from the public encourages us to build on the success of previous editions."

"With the introduction of the World Beers Area, introduced in recent years with live performances by top local bands and djs, we have provided many young people with an alternative night out."
