The Malta Jazz Festival - A Magical Feast of Jazz 7/21/2003

The idyllic setting at Ta' Liesse with the beautiful view of the Grand Harbour as a backdrop, hosted some great jazz artistes as well as Maltese musicians over the weekend. The 13th edition of the Malta Jazz Festival, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, was well patronised by both Maltese and foreigners. It was truly a feast for jazz enthusiasts and music lovers.

Domenic Galea's Heritage set the jazz mood on the opening night followed by the international singer Dianne Reeves. To the immense delight of the many fans, Cubanismo returned with much more vigour and swinging flavour and they immediately had crowds swaying and dancing.

The second night opened with American Voices featuring Coco York and Mike del Ferro, followed by Septeto led by the bandleader Roberto Juan Rodriguez with one of the current top clarinetist, David Krakauer. Wayne Shorter together with Brian Blade, Danilo Perez u John Patitucci signed off Saturday evening.

Sandro Zerafa accompanied by David Georgelet, Emmanuel Brunet and Sebastien Llado, Jorge Ben Jor and his group of fine musicians and Tania Maria and Viva Brazil gave those present plenty to cheer about on Sunday night.

The Jazz Festival, supported by the main sponsors, Cisk Export Premium Lager and Vodafone Malta Limited has now been established as one of Malta's top cultural events for summer.
