Jazz Festival Umbrella 7/14/2003

A mini series of jazz sessions is being held this week in Valletta as part of the promotion of The Malta Jazz Festival. Maltese jazz musicians are taking to the streets of Valletta to delight passer-bys with their music.

The Jazz Festival's organiser, the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, is offering a sample of traditional jazz music in three different venues in Valletta. All jazz sessions start at 10.30am till 12.00 noon.

The programme commences tomorrow (Tuesday 15th July), with the participation of Charles Sciberras Quartet and featuring singer Olivia Lewis. This jazz session will take place in Republic Street, under the arcades (in front of OK Gift Shop).

On Wednesday, 16th July, Paul Giordimania and his duo will perform selections from his extensive repertoire and arrangements that blend traditional and modern sounds. Paul Giordimania will be in Republic Street (in front of Kingsway Store).

Renzo Spiteri's Trio will surely delight the casual spectators on Thursday, 17th July, with their Latin jazz. This session will also be held in Republic Street (in front of Cost Borg Co Ltd).

"Designed to promote the Malta Jazz Festival, this first ever mini series will present a mixture of traditional jazz music," said Mr Robert Cefai, Event Co-ordinator from The Council for Culture and the Arts. "These outdoor jazz sessions also give space to our Maltese musicians to expose their talent to the general public."

Music lovers, The Malta Jazz Festival is fast approaching. The festival runs this weekend and has one of the best and most exciting line-ups since it had been held for the first time in 1990. The event is sponsored by Cisk Export Premium Lager and Vodafone Malta Limited and supported by Le Meridien Phoenicia and the American Center. It kicks off at 8.00pm on each evening.
