The last round of the Carlsberg Captains' League was played on Saturday 17th May 2003 at the Royal Malta Golf Club in Marsa.
Played once a month over seven months this competition is based on a team score, the best aggregate of which goes towards determining the winning team. Each team is captained by the current Club Captain together with the previous six Club Captains. The teams were chosen at the beginning of the golf season in September 2002. Mannie Agius' team which had been leading the competition for the last two months maintained a good score on the final day and ensured first place by 940 points - a comfortable 23 points over the second placed team captained by Kim Borg. Other final results were P Stoner's team 909; R Dickinson 897; A Bonello 885; D Ellis 871; and J Lewis 864 points.
An individual scoring competition is part of the Carlsberg Captains' League. Nicholas Borg who was leading the competition prior to Saturday returned a low score of 27 points to drop him to an overall second place. With 40 points, Alex Mangion gained first place with an overall score of 193 points just a point ahead of Nicholas Borg. Per Bergedahl placed third overall with 186 points. The best individual score for the seventh round was by young Nicholas Beck (42 points) one point ahead of the matured Keith Woodward; whilst the best team for the day was that captained by Paul Stoner (191 points).
At the end of the competition David Micallef St. John, Carlsberg Brand Executive in Malta, presented the prizes to the winners, and much to the delight of the golfers present confirmed the renewal of the sponsorship for the next golf season.
