The UK’s Number 1 bitter ale, John Smith’s, are proud sponsors of the world’s most famous horse race, The Grand National 2009 that took place at Aintree Racecourse between Thursday, 2nd April and Saturday, 4th April. The John Smith’s Grand National is regarded by many as the greatest steeplechase in the world and for three days in April, is the most atmospheric, electrifying sporting venue in the world.

Almost two and a quarter miles in length, the Aintree racecourse in Liverpool, features 16 unique jumps – including drop and 90-degreee turn fences – and is a huge test of horsemanship for both rider and steed.

This year’s Grand National Runners competed for a record prize money of GBP900,000, an increase of GBP100,000 on the previous year.
