Bols, the world’s oldest distiller, challenges bartenders from every nation to put their mixology creativity to the test with the launch of the second of its Cocktail Masters competitions. This year’s competition is a celebration of nations to find the “World’s Favourite Cocktail” and crown one lucky bartender “Bols Cocktail Master 2008”.

Bartenders across the globe have created their ultimate national cocktail, a drink which captures the character and personality of their nation and people. Bols distributor in Malta – Wands Limited has asked Patrick Briffa, bars manager and head bartender at Le Méridien St Julians, to prepare a unique refreshing, colourful cocktail to represent Malta in the competition.

“It is a tremendous honour for me to represent Malta at the World’s Favourite Cocktail Competition. Bols’ versatility makes an ideal ingredient for great cocktails. It is a unique opportunity for me to compete once again on an international level,” said Patrick Briffa, bar manager and head bartender at Le Méridien St Julians. Le Méridien St Julians is always striving to improve its employees’ experience and education opportunities. Participation in this international competition is one of the many ways to recognize its staff’s knowledge and expertise.

In a first step, national participants will compete on an international level with the other selected national Cocktail Masters via online submissions at http://www.bolsaroundtheworld.com/, where fellow bartenders are invited to submit their votes for their favourite cocktail/bartender by 31st January 2008.

The grand finale sees the Top 10 Cocktail Masters mixing up their cocktails for a judging panel of industry experts at the Bols Global Shake-Off in Amsterdam, in March 2008.

Cocktails will be judged on the presentation, including name, colour, appearance as well as taste, including utilization of ingredients, creativity and taste cycle. The winner of the Shake Off in Amsterdam will be given a unique chance to swap places and skills in the cocktail capitals of the world.

Jacco van Vliet, Commercial Director for Bols, said, “Following the success of Bols 200, we wanted to re-unite bartenders around the world this year with a competition that celebrates geography rather than history. There are so many incredible local products specific to each nation that will provide bartenders with an exciting repertoire of ingredients to mix with Bols range of liqueurs. We look forward to reviewing the innovative recipes that come in and celebrating the spirit of our nations in the process”.

Maltese bartenders wishing to vote for their favourite cocktail or to seek more information can log on to: www.bolsaroundtheworld.com.

Bols is imported, marketed and distributed by Wands Limited, a subsidiary company of The Farsons Group of Companies.
