Corona Extra will for the first time ever be giving local beer drinkers the opportunity to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in various bars and night clubs around Malta this weekend.

Tomorrow, Saturday, 5th May, from 10pm onwards, Corona girls sporting ‘yellow and blue’ branded catsuits shall, in the company of Mr. Walking Bottle, be hitting the roads of Paceville giving out flyers and handing out attractive Corona giveaways to those spotted drinking Corona beer at any of the participating outlets. Corona drinkers will also have the opportunity to take advantage of special price offers on buckets as well as being photographed with Mr. Walking Bottle. The same promotion will be repeated next day from 6pm in Bugibba Square.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “Fifth of May”) is a popular Mexican fiesta commemorating the Mexican army’s defeat of French forces on May 5, 1862, in the Batalla de Puebla (Battle of Puebla). During the battle, General Ignacio Zaragoza led the vastly outnumbered Mexican army to victory over the French forces of Emperor Napoleon III. The triumph of Mexican forces at the Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. Today Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Mexico as well as regions in the United States with sizeable communities of Mexican origin, with festivities often including sports events, parades, music and dancing, picnics and beauty contests.
