27/05/2005

Burger King is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Malta with a charity event in aid of Caritas Malta and in collaboration with the Valletta Local Council on Saturday 4th June 2005 at Freedom Square, Valletta. The event will run from 10.00am to 8.00pm.

The public will have an opportunity to participate in a Charity Penalty Shoot Out against some of the Maltese top goalkeepers by donating Lm1 for three kicks.  Three out of three will earn the participant a free Burger King meal. This activity will run throughout the day and will be compered by various local and TV personalities. The Valletta Mayor, Dr Paul Borg Olivier will open this charity event by shooting the first kick at 10.00am.

This was announced during a press conference held at Burger King’s flagship restaurant in Valletta, which has recently been newly redecorated into a 1950s Americana diner.

“Burger King proudly celebrates its 10th successful year of operations in Malta. To thank the Maltese community for their continuous and loyal support, we decided to organise an event to raise money for Caritas Malta” said Stefania Conte, General Manager for BURGER KING franchisee, Food Chain (Holdings) Limited.

“We have chosen to support Caritas in appreciation of their hardworking initiatives in our society. Moreover, Burger King will be donating 10% of its total sales on 4th June towards Caritas Malta,” she said.

Apart from benefiting an important cause, the event will include a variety show and activities for people of all ages. “The highlight of the Charity Penalty Shoot-Out will be the special guest star, No.1 goalkeeper Davide Bertaccini from A.S. Cervia 1920/Campioni il Sogno, an Italian TV reality show, and his trainer Claudio Bozzini,” said Marco Debono, Burger King Marketing Executive. “Participants will be putting their scoring skills to test against 11 top goalkeepers that have been roped in for this charity event. These include Mario Muscat, Saviour Darmanin, Sean Sullivan, Ruben Debono, Ivan Casha, Matthew Camilleri, Daniel Denkaky, Manuel Bartolo, Simon Grech, Sandro Micallef and Jason Cordina.”

Other activities include face painting for children; Stompers Rugby Team truck pull; dog show; AFM rescue and abseiling by the Civil Protection, and local singers and comperes, namely Hector Bruno, Claudette Pace, Marbeck Spiteri, Owen Bonnici, Peter Busuttil, Clint Spiteri, Alison & Analise Ellul, Joseph Chetcuti, Peppi Azzopardi, Carlo Borg Bonaci, Debbie Scerri, and Moira Delia.

While thanking Burger King and all the supporting companies involved in this event, Anglu Fenech, Administrative Secretary from Caritas Malta said: “The day will definitely be full of fun and exciting.  Not only rewarding for winning participants, but Caritas will also benefit. The event will help to raise funds for us to continue our work in the Maltese community.”
